Kachemak Bay is one of the richest and most biologically diverse estuaries in Alaska, and its wealth of natural resources have supported Native cultures for thousands of years.
Join water quality watchdog Cook Inletkeeper on an exciting excursion for two people to the Ancient Island Retreat on Kachemak Bay’s Yukon Island, where travelers will learn local natural history, see Native Alaskan middens and other archeological sites, sleep in rustic tent cabins, and dine on fine Alaskan seafood.
Cook Inlet Keeper (www.inletkeeper.org) will provide transportation to and from the Island on its locally-built tolman skiff, and participants will set their own pace and itinerary options include forest hikes, birding, tidepool walks, archaeological and natural history excursions, or simply relaxing in quiet solitude around a campfire on the beach.
This package also includes a one night stay in one of Homer’s quaint bed and breakfasts.
